Jacksonville

According to a recent study, Jacksonville is the fifth-best city in the country for school reform based on a variety of indicators.

For Jacksonville, that means they are succeeding in creating an environment conducive to reform partnerships. The report, done by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, also states that results won't be seen immediately. The following is still needed: Quality teachers, rigorous standards, rich curricula, vibrant school choice, capable school leaders, data-based decisions, good governance and rational finances.

Jacksonville is currently and aggressively supporting the highest graduation requirements in the state and continues to embrace accountability while continuing to expand magnet and charter school choice options. As part of reform, the school system strengthened curriculum and professional development for teachers and administration. Teacher performance pay is in collaboration with the local teachers union and a rigorous performance management system focused on a strategic plan was put into place.

Be a part of the local movement by getting involved with your local Waiting for “Superman” campaign.
