Washington D.C.

Once the worst performing urban district in America, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) have produced significant student achievement in recent years.

In the past two years, test scores have begun to climb and ethnic achievement gaps have narrowed.

In the summer of 2010, D.C. Public School teachers ratified the nation's most progressive teachers' contract, allowing the District to hire and fire teachers based on performance and reward some top teachers with six-figure salaries. D.C. schools are upping their game to the benefit of children, as test scores are climbing and poor-quality schools are closing.

Be a part of the local movement by getting involved with your local Waiting for “Superman” campaign.
